Dear Parishioners
Holy Week is the most important week in our church year and I encourage you all to make a special effort to attend the Holy Week Liturgies. They are beautiful ceremonies and renew us all in our faith. Please think especially of the Penance Service on Wednesday at 7pm. Start to think about coming to confessions especially if it has been a few years. I know that coming back to confession may be difficult but it is worth it. If you are worried about what to say I have produced a simple sheet explaining the way we come to confession I Have also left prayer books and leaflets at the back of church for you to look at I hope it is of help and of course all of the priests coming to the Penance Service will guide you through.
We are having a Service for the Sick and Housebound this Sunday afternoon, Palm Sunday We will anoint the sick of the parish who would like to receive the Sacrament of the Sick. Do you know someone who would like to come or could you offer to bring someone in your car. Let myself or Deacons Pat and Gerry know please. Could all Eucharistic Ministers see if any of their sick and housebound would like to come and if they need a lift.
It maybe a good time to think of inviting people back to church I am sure we all know of at least one family member, friend or neighbour who may respond to a kind encouragement to come to church with you over Easter. To make this task easier we have produced plenty of Easter Cards. There are enough for two each. One for your own use but another to give to someone else as a way of inviting them back for Easter. You may even want to post it through someone's letter box.
The Christ the King Youth Group will be starting here in the Library from Tuesday 25th April at 6.30pm -8pm. All welcome from Yr. 7 and above. We have forms if you would like to come along.. After Easter we are also starting up a Youth Cafe course.
Finally but very importantly I want you to remember Fr John Bentley this Holy Week Fr John's condition has worsened and his concentration span has shortened. One symptom is a fascination with counting and numbers .He is able to walk say his Rosary and Divine Office but cannot say Mass without help. He is staying at Oscott College for a few weeks so as to give his parents some respite and help. He was very happy at Oscott and it has good memories for him . His disease is incurable and I ask that we pray for John and his family who are caring for him. We will all walk Holy Week in our own ways , John and his family are truly walking with Christ this week and we ask that they see the Lord with them this Easter.
God Bless you all   Fr Tom
