Dear Parishioners
This week we
welcome Dominic Cosslett to our parish.
Dominic is a student for the priesthood having converted to Catholicism
after
ten years as an Anglican priest. He will introduce himself to you all
at the
Masses over the weekend., and I know you will make him welcome in our
parish.
Congratulations to the children at St Augustine's who made their First
Holy Communion this
weekend. The children at the Christ the King end of the parish make
theirs next
Saturday at 10 am and 12noon Masses.
We have my
Induction Mass on Friday 19th May at 7pm. I hope that many of you will
be able to come. To help us to
estimate numbers for catering would you kindly sign the sheets at the
back of
church if you are coming to the reception.. Bishop Pargeter and a good
number
of priests will be coming to celebrate the Mass and I would like it to
be a
great parish evening. The induction Mass reminds us of the partnership
between
priest and people that is at the heart of a good parish Please come
along if
you can.
Our youth group
meets this week May 9th at
6.30 and thanks to all who help with this. The group will meet every
fortnight
on Tuesday at 6.30pm in the Library at Christ the King. Future meetings
23
May,6 June,20 June,4July and 18 July. The Tea and Coffee after Masses
is a
great hit and thanks to those on the rota. Rotas are available this
week and
can be altered to suit.
We have booked the
Hall in the parish centre for
Family World Cup events. These are for the first three England
games . We will have a
large screen and food etc so that families can enjoy the games
together. We
will also have a World Cup Challenge game and I will let you know how
to enter
next week.
We are having a
Blessed Sacrament Procession on Sunday
June 25th after the 12 noon Mass The First Communion Children in
Communion
Dress will lead the procession from the Church to the Junior School
field for
Benediction. We will then have a family picnic and games etc on the
field. If
the weather is bad we have a Plan B!
During the month of May there will be
Rosary said 15 mins before each Mass.
I know that many
people have read Dan Brown's book
"The Da Vinci Code " and that the film is soon to be released. As
Catholics we are often asked our opinion on such matters. I have copied
a sheet
-which is a good explanation of the Church's reaction to the book and
the film.
Enjoy it but remember it is only a fictional story.
God Bless you all
Fr Tom
