The Season of
Advent 2008
Dear
Parishioners,
In
the present economic climate we hear a lot about how best to beat the
credit crunch. This will be a particular concern as we approach
Christmas and the inevitable pressure put upon us to buy more and more.
Teh tighening of belts may be a blessing in disguise. It may help us
focus not just on the practical but the spiritual side of our
preparations. If we don't do something for Advent then we will miss the
real message of Christmas. Christmas is not just about how much we
spend but how much we love.
Detailed
below is our timetable of events for Advent and our plans for
Christmas, Try to choose something to do as we prepare for Christmas,
Do not try to do too much, just one thing will be enough for most
people. We all made great efforts for Lent and we should make the same
effort for the few weeks of Advent Once again I want us to support the
Services of Penance with Confession, We have one at St Augustine's on
Tuesday 16th December and one at Christ the King on Wednesday
17th to spread the crowd. We need to support this so that we all
witness to the importance of this sacmment^especiatty to pass on the
tradition to our children.lt is also a part of our Christmas duties to
come to confession. We have the Advent "Walk with Me" booklets so that
we can make time for prayer each day. Let us support each other
on this Advent journey and pray for God's blessings in this Holy
Season. God Bless, Fr Tom
