Triple Celebration for St Augustines, Coventry.

Bishop William Kenney visited St Augustine’s school in Coventry on February 2nd to bless and open the new school entrance along with a newly commissioned statue of St Augustine of Canterbury. The life size wooden statue of St Augustine was carved by Angela Walsh, a Coventry Artist. The statue is situated in the new entrance to the school. The Bishop also opened the new family centre which will serve the Radford area of the city. The new building, which was built with the help of a £550,000 Government Grant, will provide facilities for young children and their families. There is a crèche, offices for health visitors, midwives and adult education teachers. The centre will be open to the public on Thursday 26th February, The photograph shows Bishop Kenney with Fr Richard Scott, Assistant Priest at Christ the King, along with some pupils from St Augustine's school preparing to Bless the new entrance. As part of the afternoon celebrations children from the school performed a drama telling the story of St Augustine’s Journey to England and the beginnings of Christianity.  Augustine of Canterbury (born circa first third of the 6th century - died 26 May 604) was a Benedictine monk who became the first Archbishop of Canterbury in the year 598. He is considered the "Apostle to the English" and a founder of the English Church.
